Dean is a member of the Privacy & Cybersecurity and Healthcare practice groups at Sidley Austin, where he represents clients across various industry groups in privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer protection matters. During his career, Dean has practiced law with the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, where he worked on seminal privacy, data security, and advertising law matters. Dean also has worked in-house advising life sciences companies (Schering-Plough, Merck, and Johnson & Johnson) as a Global Privacy Officer and in senior global privacy compliance roles; and, he has advised clients in healthcare, financial services, technology, and other industry groups as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton and his own consulting firm.
Dean brings more than two decades of experience counseling clients on creating and implementing privacy and data security programs that enable multinational companies to protect personal data and execute mission critical business strategies. He is a former Board member of the International Association of the Privacy Professionals (IAPP), a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), and a Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP). Dean is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.
